Top 5 warranties to look for when picking panels
A solar quote is really five separate warranties bundled into one number. Reading them individually tells you far more than the headline price does.
Product vs performance warranty
The product warranty covers manufacturing defects, typically for 10–12 years. The performance warranty is a separate, longer promise (usually 25 years) about how much output the panel will still produce as it degrades. Ask for both numbers, not just one.
Workmanship and BOS often get skipped
Installation quality — cable routing, earthing, junction box sealing — has its own workmanship warranty, and the balance-of-system components (cables, connectors, mounting) have theirs. A cheap quote often means one of these two is missing, not the panels themselves.
What to actually ask for in writing
Get the panel datasheet, the inverter warranty card, and the workmanship warranty terms as separate documents before you sign — not just a one-line “25-year warranty” on the sales brochure.
