Rooftop Solar Cost and Subsidy

Cost & Subsidies

5 questions

The cost of your solar system depends on your monthly electricity consumption, sanctioned load, and the system size best suited for your home. At Atria, we offer customized residential solar solutions ranging from 1.77 kW to 5.31 kW, built with the latest TopCon technology for higher efficiency and energy generation.

After applying the applicable Government subsidy or Atria's upfront subsidy support, the effective price of your solar system is approximately ₹1.40 lakh to ₹2.50 lakhs (excluding GST), depending on the system size. This allows you to enjoy immediate savings, lower electricity bills, and a faster return on your investment. The typical payback period on your investment is less than 4 years

Our team will recommend the ideal system for your home based on your energy usage, ensuring maximum savings on electricity bills and a faster return on your investment

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is a Government of India initiative offering a direct financial subsidy for residential rooftop solar installations. Eligible households can receive up to ₹78,000.

The subsidy is available when you install through an empaneled vendor like Atria Renewable. We handle the entire application process on your behalf — from documentation to submission — at no extra charge.

Yes. Through the Namma Atria app, you can explore EMI (Equated Monthly Instalment) plans offered by our partnered lending institutions, allowing you to spread the cost over manageable monthly payments.

Loan terms, interest rates, and eligibility are determined by the lending partner. Atria Renewable does not guarantee loan approval but will assist with the process where possible.

For most residential customers in Bengaluru and Karnataka, the typical payback period is 3 to 5 years, depending on your electricity tariff, system size, and actual generation. After payback, you generate essentially free electricity for the remaining 20+ years of the system's life.

The Namma Atria app shows you an estimated savings projection based on your electricity bill and local solar irradiance data.

No hidden charges. The quoted price covers supply, installation, wiring, and net meter application assistance. O&M service plans are available optionally post-installation and are clearly priced — you can view and manage your maintenance schedule through the Namma Atria app.

Rooftop Suitability

3 questions

Most homes with a reasonably shadow-free rooftop qualify. Key factors:

Roof area: ~10 sq. m of usable space per 1 kW of capacity.

Shading: Minimal shadow during peak sun hours (9 AM – 4 PM).

Structural strength: Must support ~15–20 kg/sq. m for panels and mounting.

Roof type: RCC, metal sheet, and tile roofs are all feasible.

Our free site survey confirms suitability before any money is committed.

System size is matched to your average monthly electricity consumption and sanctioned load:

0–150 units/month → 1–2 kW system

150–300 units/month → 2–3 kW system

300+ units/month → 3 kW and above

Enter your electricity bill in the Namma Atria app for a personalised recommendation.

For maximum generation in India, panels ideally face south at a tilt angle roughly equal to your latitude — approximately 12–13° for Bengaluru. Our engineers determine the best placement during the site survey based on your roof's orientation, shading patterns, and available area.

Quality solar panels are designed to last 25–30 years, with a 25-year performance warranty guaranteeing at least 80% of rated output. Inverters typically last 10–15 years and may need one replacement over the panel lifetime. Mounting structures and cabling are rated for the full panel life when correctly installed.

On-Grid (Grid-Tied): Connected to the electricity grid. Excess power is exported and credited via net metering. Most cost-effective for homes with reliable grid supply — the most common residential choice.

Hybrid: Includes battery storage alongside grid connection. Provides backup during outages while still allowing net metering. Ideal if your area has frequent power cuts.

The Namma Atria app helps you choose the right type based on your consumption, location, and backup needs.

Atria uses tier-1 panels, inverters, and mounting hardware from reputable manufacturers with proven track records in India. Our systems are compatible with leading inverter monitoring platforms — Sungrow, Solinteg, and VSole/Shinemonitor — powering the real-time Energy Dashboard in the Namma Atria app.

Energy generated from Solar.

Energy Generation

4 questions

Yes — panels continue generating on overcast days, typically at 10–30% of peak capacity depending on cloud density. During heavy rain, generation drops further but does not stop. Annual system sizing already accounts for seasonal weather variations and monsoon patterns in your region.

With an on-grid system, excess electricity is automatically exported to the grid. You receive net metering credits for every unit exported, which offset units you draw from the grid at other times — evenings, cloudy days, and so on. There is no wasted generation; your system continues earning savings even when you're away.

Shading significantly reduces output — even partial shading on a single panel can affect the whole string. Modern systems mitigate this through:

Bypass diodes in panels to isolate shaded cells.

Micro-inverters or optimizers so each panel operates independently.

Careful layout planning during the site survey to avoid chronic shading sources.

In Bengaluru, a rooftop solar system generates approximately 4–4.5 units (kWh) per kW of installed capacity per day on average — so a 3 kW system generates ~12–13.5 units/day. The Namma Atria app provides a personalised estimate, and the post-installation Energy Dashboard tracks your actual real-time performance.

Net metering, BESCOM

Net Metering

3 questions

Net metering is a billing mechanism that records both the power you consume from the grid and the excess solar power you export back. At the end of each billing cycle:

Imported more than exported → you pay only for the net difference.

Exported more than imported → surplus credits roll forward or are compensated at the applicable tariff.

A bidirectional meter is installed by BESCOM. Atria handles the entire net metering application as part of the installation package.

Surplus credits are typically carried forward to the next billing cycle. If a surplus remains at the settlement period end, it may be compensated at the prescribed feed-in rate.

In BESCOM areas, the feed-in tariff is currently approximately ₹2 per unit exported, subject to KERC regulatory changes.

Net metering policy is governed by your state electricity regulator and may change. Atria will keep you informed of relevant updates.

Yes. Atria manages the full BESCOM approval and net meter application process — document submission, follow-up with BESCOM, and coordination for meter installation — all as part of the standard installation package. Track your application status through the Namma Atria app.

You will receive a written service report after each visit, accessible through the Namma Atria app, detailing findings and any recommended actions.

Please note: Preventive maintenance visits do not include panel cleaning. Cleaning is offered separately through our AMC plans.

No — panel cleaning is not included in the complimentary preventive maintenance programme. The quarterly visits focus on the electrical and structural health of your system: wiring, inverter, connections, mounting, and performance assessment.

Panel cleaning is a separate, optional service offered through our Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) plans. Dust accumulation on panels can reduce output by 5–20% over time depending on your location and the season, so regular cleaning is important for maintaining peak performance.

We offer two flexible AMC plans on an annual basis:

Monthly AMC (1-year plan): Professional panel cleaning once every month — ideal for sites with high dust exposure, proximity to construction zones, or heavy pollen during dry seasons.

Quarterly AMC (1-year plan): Professional panel cleaning once every quarter — suited to most residential customers in urban Karnataka, where seasonal monsoon rainfall provides natural cleaning for part of the year.

Combining your included quarterly preventive maintenance with an AMC cleaning plan gives your system comprehensive year-round coverage at every level.

Installing rooftop home solar

Technical

3 questions

When installed correctly, solar panels do not damage your roof. Atria uses appropriate mounting systems for every roof type — RCC, metal sheet, and tile — designed to distribute weight evenly and maintain weatherproofing. Our site survey includes a structural assessment to confirm your roof can safely support the installation.

With a standard on-grid system, the inverter automatically shuts down during a grid outage — this is a mandatory safety requirement to protect utility workers. If you want power backup during cuts, a hybrid system with battery storage is the solution. Atria’s team can recommend the right battery capacity for your needs.

Yes — a net metering connection approval from BESCOM (or your local DISCOM) is required to legally connect to the grid. Atria manages this entire process on your behalf, including the application, documentation, and follow-up. You do not need to visit any BESCOM office. Track the application status through the Namma Atria app.
